Long Beach Community Acupuncture offers a range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulas. As one of the pillars of TCM, herbal formulas involve the combination of natural substances and can include pills, capsules, teabags, extract powder, raw herbs, and topical plasters or ointments. Each of our formulas are prescribed to meet the unique needs of each patient and can be used to treat a variety of concerns. In fact, some conditions may respond better to a combination of acupuncture and herbal treatment, or herbal medicine may be used on its own.

Are Chinese Herbs Safe?

In short, yes. Chinese herbs should only be prescribed by a Licensed Acupuncturist with herbal training. At LBCA, my extensive training enables me to select suitable herbal formulas for our patients and to monitor my patients’ progress throughout their care. Most patients experience no side effects. However, if there is a question of whether herbs are appropriate for a specific individual, or if there is a potential for interaction with Western medication, I will proceed with caution.

Further, for the safety of our community members here at LBCA, I only use herbs from suppliers who have committed to closely screening the quality of their products.

How Do I Get Started?

If you are interested in learning more about herbs let me know at your next appointment. I’ll talk with you about your goals and recommend one or more formulas that I think will work best for your needs. I have a full inventory readily available and herb prices range from $20 to $50.

Learn about may way’s history

In 1969, our parents escaped communism in China to open a tiny herb shop in San Francisco's Chinatown. Inspired by their hopes for the future and to honor their adopted country, they named it Mayway 美威 "America is Mighty".

Our grandfather was the herbalist in his village and our parents served the Chinese community in the SF Bay. As first-generation Americans, we envision a future in which TCM is fully integrated into American life. By ensuring the exceptional quality and authenticity of our products, we strengthen your practice and foster the acceptance of Chinese medicine in this country.

We are grateful to be a part of the TCM community, enjoy working as closely as four siblings can, and cherish the friendships, partnerships and trust you've honored us with.

Thank you for your support of Mayway, and of Real Chinese Medicine.
